Preface 3 Meridian Is the Original Creative Chinese Life Science for over Two Thousand Years

20世纪50年代初期，我国就重视中医研究，强调中西医结合要创建中国新医药学，提出经络实质研究，我被这一领域深深吸引了。1961年，我考入辽宁中医学院本科，毕业后到中国中医科学院针灸经络研究所工作，从事针灸经络研究工作，当时北京市第六医院院长曹维礼正巧是家母大学同学，据曹院长介绍，李定忠主任是从中国医学科学院皮肤病研究所调来的，一直从事中医经络针灸研究和中西医结合临床工作。从那时起，我就结识了李定忠主任，一起搞合作。20世纪80年代初，我担任肿瘤科主任和皮肤科主任，用电热针治疗表浅恶性肿瘤很有效，是中标部级攻关课题。李定忠教授中标国家经络理论研究攻关课题。我们在合作的过程中，结下了深厚的友谊。

In the beginning of the 1950s, attention started to be paid to TCM research. I was deeply attracted to the creation of a new field of Chinese medicine and pharmacy with a combination of TCM and western medicine. In 1961, I entered Liaoning TCM College as an undergraduate, and after graduating, I worked in the Institute of Acupuncture and Moxibustion of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, undertaking research on meridians and acupuncture. By coincidence, the director of the Beijing Sixth Hospital, CAO Weili, was the classmate of my mother. Introduced by Director CAO, I became acquainted with Professor LI Dingzhong, knowing that Director LI Dingzhong came from the Dermal Institute of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and had worked for a long period of time on research on meridians and acupuncture and TCM-western combined clinical work. Since then, we have cooperated together to research in this field. At the beginning of the 1980s, I was the director of the oncology department and dermal department, using electro-heat needling to cure malignant superficial-shallow cancers with very good effect, I was then awarded the“Key topic granted by Ministry, ”and LI Dingzhong was also given a grant for meridian theoretic research. In the process of our cooperation, we have built a very profound friendship.

据我了解，李教授有几项最突出的发现：

To my understanding, Professor LI Dingzhong has made several distinguished discoveries.

第一，循经皮肤病的发现，特别是先天性循经皮肤病的发现，证实经络存在是由基因决定的，引起了国内外重视，对他坚持61年的经络研究起到了决定性作用，而李教授年逾八旬，仍在乘胜前进。

The first is the discovery of dermal diseases along the meridian, especially the discovery of congenital dermal diseases along the meridian, by which it was verified that the existence of the meridian is decided by genetics. This new discovery led to great attention domestically and from abroad. Professor LI has spent more than 61 years on this research and is still going forward even though he is now 87 years old.

第二，他坚持从实践入手，坚持以中医理论为基石，以经络感传的特殊规律为切入点，开展多学科大协作，搞经络现代化实验研究。经络运行规律、经络科学实质及调整机制等许多关键性理论问题取得了突破性进展。

The second is that he has persisted in clinical practice, insisting on the basis of TCM theory, regarding propagated sensation along meridian (PSM) as the starting point, developing cooperation with multiple disciplines, engaged in experimental research on meridian modernization. In many respects of the operational laws of meridian, operational essence and regulation mechanism, etc., breakthrough advances have been obtained.

第三，他发现了经络的整体环形通道，是体内的“闭合电路”，称之为“经络环”。在此基础上，发明了经络环皮部挑治法和经穴磁疗法，能做到双向调整。内病外治、多病同治等高效、速效疗法，深受患者欢迎，方法简单，易于推广。对解决看病贵、看病难有实用价值。

The third is that he discovered the meridian circulated channel, being a“closed electric circuit in the body”, called the“meridian ring”. Based on this, Professor LI discovered the“Dermal Pricking along Meridian Ring”(DPMR) and meridian magnetic therapeutic methods, by both of which, due to dualdirectional regulation, internal diseases are cured by an external method, multiple diseases were cured with the same treatment, which is fast, effective and deeply welcomed by patients. These methods are simple, easy to popularize and extend, and solve the problems of expense and difficulty in seeing a doctor.

李教授在国内外正式出版了5本经络专著，即《经络现象Ⅰ》《经络现象Ⅱ》《中医经络探秘上册》《中医经络探秘下册》以及2012年出版的《中医经络理论与实效的现代研究》。这本书是第六部经络专著。现用汉英对照版的形式发表，便于国外留学生学习，便于向国外传播。据他本人说：“这是中国几千年的原创人体生命科学，是人体的自我调整、自我完善，既能治病，又能防病的绿色医疗。应该走向世界，造福世人。”我很赞赏这种精神。我是世界针联副主席、美国中医针灸学会会长，我愿写序，向世界推荐这本书。

Professor LI has published five meridian treatises, i. e. The Meridian Phenomena I, The Meridian Phenomena II, Exploring the Secret of Meridian of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Volume I and Exploring the Secret of Meridian of the Traditional Chinese Mediune Volume II, and The Modern Research on the Theory and Practical Effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine published in 2012. This book to be published in English and Chinese makes it easier to be learnt by foreign students and propagated abroad.As he himself has said, this has been the original creative Chinese life science for over two thousand years and is a“green”medical therapy with the characteristics of self-regulation and self-perfection of the human body, both for therapy and protection against diseases, and has also said that it should go out to the world to benefit the people of the world. I admire this spirit very much. As the deputy chairman of World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) and the head of the American TCM Acupuncture society, it is a great pleasure to write this preface and to recommend this book to the world.
